The Festa Major in Sitges is surely one of the single most bizarre but exciting town festivals I've been to (that said I've not been to that many). It goes on for about 3 or 4 days, but the main festivities are on the Sunday of a holiday weekend. We started drinking at about 9.30 in the morning with a group of drummers (the red ones!), the plan being to go on until 5 the following morning. With two hours kip in the middle I just about managed it.There were a number of marches throughout the festival - each one with as many fireworks spinning hot embers on to your back and into your hair as the next. It has to be said that the photographs don't do justice to the chaos created by these "demons" spraying fire all over willing participants - but you get the idea.My favourite though has to be the shot of the two with head masks on, but one holding it up. Both masks and the woman look as if they've all seen something off to the right. Given how hard getting good results from this part of the parade was, I'm glad I got this one at least. |
